Historical Background
Kinangop TVC is a TVET institution in Kenya charged with the mandate of training middle level technical and vocational labour force. It was established by the government of Kenya in collaboration with the local community.
Kinangop Technical and Vocational College is located along Njabini - Fly-Over Road at Githioro trading centre, Githabai ward, South Kinangop Sub-County of Nyandarua County
The college was inaugurated by His Excellency Hon. Dr. William Samoei Ruto – Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya on 13th October 2018. It opened its doors for the first batch of trainees in January 2019 with 58 trainees.
The college has conducive learning environment with affordable housing and food. The students are also actively involved in co-curriculum activities.
Kinangop TVC is a Centre of Excellence in Mechanical Engineering and currently has five Academic Departments: mechanical Engineering (production and automotive; Electrical and Electronics engineering, Building and Civil Engineering (building and Plumbing), ICT/ business and hospitality (food and beverage, hairdressing and beauty. The non-academic departments/Sections Finance, Procurement, Sports and Games.
Governance Structure
KTVC is a Public Tertiary Institution under the Ministry of Education, it operates under the TVET Act 2013 Laws of Kenya. The College’s operations are also carried out in accordance with the Government policies and procedures as spelt out in official documents and circulars. The College operates under the management of the Board of Governors appointed by the Minister in charge of Education. The Principal is the college CEO and the secretary to the BOG. On the day-to-day operations of the college, the Principal is assisted by the Deputy Principal, the Registrar, the Dean of Students and Heads of Departments. The students participate in College’s governance through a student’s council led by an elected student council leader.
MANDATE
The mandate of Kinangop Technical and Vocational College is to facilitate the acquisition of high-quality technical skills and knowledge in line with government policy so as to ensure that its graduates are of world class standards.
